The Orbán Foundation is a regional organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for children with multiple disabilities in need or abandoned by their parents.
May 2017 was one of the busiest months for our Foundation, since besides the Open Hearts Day, we were getting ready for the Children’s Theatre Festival entitled Let’s Play Together!, organized for the twenty second time. This year the Festival was hosted by the Fülöp Áron Elementary School in Feliceni. Our team has been performing at the Festival for many years.

For this edition, we put on stage a short story from Wass Albert A Tale about the Woods using non-verbal, pantomime techniques, music and a fabulous setting. Our little group stepped on the scene on May 18th at 4 p.m. We saw a lot of touching songs and plays and in the end we won the Special Award of the Jury and the Audience, prizes for which our children, adults, workers and the leader of the foundation worked together hand in hand.

We believe, that participating year by year at this event is highly important, because it is an occasion for healthy kids to meet children with disabilities and they get to know us better. This way we create a real chance for inclusion and we can spread our message: with the proper support, anyone can break down barriers.

Regretfully, our foundation has to deal with a lot of misconceptions regarding people with disabilities. Many people don’t even know what lies under the sign of disabled or what does the Orbán Foundation do for people with disabilities and for their family members. We have been thinking of organizing such an open day for a long time, to show our activity, our daily life, our successes and the difficulties we encounter on the way.

This year, on May 17-18 we finally managed to accomplish this project. We sent out invitations and with the help of mass-media we tried to spread the news of the event „Open hearts!”, where everybody was welcome. Our visitors arrived with their hearts wide open, knowing that looking is not enough one has to see, to be sensitive because our young people and children are not ill, but much more sensitive to the outside world.

Within these two days we have been visited by specialists of other non-governmental organizations, the pupils of the Pedagogical School, public figures and their press officers and the people of our town. We are convinced that our effort was a success, because this way we managed to reach people we could not have reached before, because we discussed real or unreal issues of our activity and because we could really show ourselves.

We believe there is a real need for this kind of activity in the future and we will try to make it a tradition.

Our foundation has a lot of visitors, who arrive organised and regularly or simply to get to know us. From time to time we get visits from the pupils of our hometown schools, who make us happy bringing us fruits and working together with us.
One of these visits took place in March, when our guests were the pupils of the preparatory class from Tompa László Elementary School in Odorheiu Secuiesc, arriving with their teacher and vice principal of the school, Mrs. Imre Ildikó. This occasion was an especially happy one for us, because among the group’s members we have found a little boy who had been helped by our foundation. After a brief session of introductions, the children worked together on Women’s Day cards. We sang together and in the end we had our well-earned popcorn. After their visit, the kids invited us to their school too, where we will hopefully go, since we strongly believe that this is the way to put down the bases for healthy children and those with disabilities to live and work side by side. The photos taken on this event are published in the Gallery.
